BRIDGEGOOD: Success Story

OVERVIEW
BRIDGEGOOD, funded by Google.org and the Golden State Warriors, is a nonprofit design studio dedicated to helping under-represented designers succeed in tech. During my 3 month Apprenticeship, I dedicated 250 hours to learning UX methodologies and creating responsive wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes for web, mobile, and tablet. I conceptualized and designed 3 new and refine features for BRIDGEGOOD.com, the Success Story, VIP Events, and Onboarding.

PROBLEM
How might we increase user retention and engagement for BRIDGEGOOD.com?

With direction from the Product Lead, we discovered that BRIDGEGOOD is currently focused on the retention and engagement components within the HEART framework for user happiness.

We identified potential to promote retention and engagement within an existing blurb on how one BRIDGEGOOD Creative achieved professional success. This feature was not fully built out nor easily discoverable on the site in its current state.

RESEARCH
Interviews with BRIDGEGOOD Creatives revealed the following key insights:

  • Most Creatives had not seen the original Success Story. They were interested in knowing more about how a Creative had moved into the professional design world.
  • Creatives would be more likely to engage with the platform given the confidence that other Creatives had utilized BRIDGEGOOD for professional success.

SOLUTION
Our solution was to build out the Success Story into a robust full-page feature and highlight it on both the homepage and Testimonials page.
It is now live.

IDEATION
With user feedback in mind, we whiteboarded on the most compelling content. We completed rounds of Crazy 8s to generate various layouts of text and images.

WIREFRAMING & PROTOTYPING
We created wireframes in low, medium, and high fidelity for desktop, tablet and mobile.

USER TESTING
Feedback from our team of 12 designers and 3 design mentors from Salesforce guided us in choosing and refining the final design.

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
We interviewed Erica — a Creative who is now a Design Professional and collected ample content for the feature. Then we paired down Erica’s story into digestible sections, pulled out quotes to highlight, and organized blocks of text with subtitles. We designed the Success Story to be robust but highly readable, to ensure that more Creatives would benefit from the information.

SUCCESS METRIC
This feature has just become live as of September 2019. Future measures of success will be a second round of interviews with Creatives.

USER PERSONA & USER JOURNEY
This is an example of a user persona that our team created for BRIDGEGOOD creatives. It helped in building empathy of users and identifying needs. We also created a user journey through the BRIDGEGOOD site to highlight key steps of destination. Storyboarding visualizes and empathizes with the user’s journey. As a result, we applied design activities for conceptualizing BRIDGEGOOD new and refined features.
