I surveyed with 25+ people who had experienced when their children had the medical process in the hospital. The survey consisted of three sections which are Demographic, Hospital and Mobile experience for understanding target audiences. The summaries and key learnings are:

  • Their highest education level was the master's degree and they employed full time which correspond annual house income $100,000 or more. The target audience can consider as a middle-high class and well educated.
  • The case of a hospital usually involves when the doctor decided, emergency and specific treatment. Special treatment was majority response from the survey.
  • The majority of people responded that they never used the mobile application from the hospital.
  • People who never used the mobile application, they believe the app will help hospital experience but people who used before, they both positive and negative based on their experience.
  • They also pointed out that the app would be one-time use compare to the average app such as Uber or coffee store apps because not many people go hospital every day unless they have serious medical problems.

CHILDREN HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL TRAUMA
The children's hospitals have addressed medical trauma to create awareness and recognition for preventing traumatic stress in health-care services. Pediatric medical traumatic stress refers to the psychological reaction of children and their families to injury, medical procedures, and treatments in the traumatic experience. The current health-care services offer counseling, play therapy, and friendly instruction and financial support. As the design perspective, the hospital encourages to chance patient and interior design to change the atmosphere as the slogan of “Hospital is not dangerous and painful.” For example, medical equipment changed as playful to feel confidence.

ADOPTION OF FITT MODEL
The FITT Model is a trauma-informed principle for family and other members to address the impact of traumatic events and contextual stressors. The ecological family systems indicate each plot to define concepts of traumatic stress in order to approach assessment, intervention, and treatment.
I adopted the original FITT model and modified it for medical traumatic stress to define how medical events related to the pediatric patient, their families, and hospital faculties. financial condition, hospital environment quality and doctors and Nurse relations added in plots.

D-E-F PROTOCOL
The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) suggests a D-E-F protocol for assessing and treating children and families with traumatic stress.

DEF

CONCLUSION

  • Medical events cause traumatic stress for both pediatric patient and their families.
  • Medical traumatic stress based on traumatic experience and mostly reacts to four behaviors: Re-Experiencing, Increased Arousal, Avoidance, and Dissociation.
  • FITT Model indicates ecological traumatic factors which can be applied in the medical event to define problems and treatments.
  • The concept of a D-E-F protocol is one of the solutions for assessing and treating traumatic stress.
